Poke Salad Festival Announces Theme for 2013

"WILD ABOUT POKE SALAD"

The Blanchard Poke Salad Festival is incorporating past and present fun activities for all. Come enjoy live entertainment, carnival, and numerous activities for kids to name a few. For the first time ever, we are including the "Poke Salad Idol" contest, where you can show off your talent and earn the title of Poke Salad Idol 2013.

Contests

There are many ways for you to participate and possibly win cash prizes at the Poke Salad Festival in 2013.



Poke Salad Idol Contest

Come show off your talent at the all new Poke Salad Idol contest, or come enjoy and show your support of our local talent. This will be a great time for all ages as there will be two age groups (12 yrs and under, 13 yrs and up). Rounds 1 & 2 will be 4:00-6:00 pm on Friday 5/10/13, with finalists competing Saturday at 2:35 pm. Please arrive at least 15 minutes before showtime Friday to sign up. You may also sign up by emailing Tanya Avery at cowgirl4lyf@aol.com.

We are inviting all businesses in the Blanchard area to participate in the Store Front Decorating Contest during the week of May 6th through May 11th by decorating for the good time to be had by all.

First place - $75.00 Office Depot gift card

Second place - $25.00 gift card.

The Store Front Decorating Contest is sponsored by Ark-La-Tex Superior Signs.

The Poke Salad Festival Treasure Hunt starts on Monday May 6th with clues being announced daily in the newspaper, on the radio, and by 8:00 A.M. here on the Treasure Hunt page.

The $1,500.00 prize is sponsored by long-time Poke Salad Festival supporter Doug's Paint and Body Shop.

  Childrens' Treasure Hunt

There will be a treasure hunt just for children, eight years old and under, every half hour starting at 11:30am on the grounds and ending at 5:00pm. Children can search for the loot by asking any Poke Salad Festival committee member, dressed in PSF event staff shirt if they have the treasure! Only one win per child, please.

Parades

As you may already know, one of the highlights of the Poke Salad Festival is the Parade through downtown Blanchard on Saturday May 11th, starting at 10:00 AM in front of Blanchard Elementary School. This year our Grand Marshal will be Mr. Shannon Wall. We always have great participation and creative ideas in our Parade Float Contest, sponsored by Doug's Paint and Body Shop.

Best in Parade receives $250.00 cash, and a trophy.

There will also be 1st and 2nd place trophies given in the following categories.

Best in float

Best Marching/Twirling / Cheer

Other/Parade participant

All groups, teams, or businesses are invited to participate in the parade float contest with no charge to join the fun. Car clubs and any other group or individual wishing to be in the parade should please contact Sandra West at 929-2639 or 422-9112 to register your parade entry. Pokey Pet Parade contest for area pet owners . Thank you to our sponsor Brookings Animal Hospital. Prizes will be awarded for Cutest - Just makes you go awwww weee; Owner look alike - dress up as a pair!; and Best Costume. Carnival

Also, the Carnival will feature armbands for all-you-can-ride rides on Thursday, Friday and Saturday this year. Don't forget to pre-purchase your carnival all-you-can-ride armband tickets at Doug's Paint and Body Shop, Pizza King, Blanchard Insurance, Blanchard Town Hall, & Express Mart for $15.00 in advance, or pay $18.00 on the day of for your armband. Tickets are available in stores now - watch for the carnival posters to go up.

Poke Salad T-shirts

The much anticipated 2013 Poke Salad Festival t-shirts are here and for purchase at Doug's Paint and Body Shop, Blanchard Insurance, Pizza King, and Blanchard Town Hall. Cost is $10 for all sizes (XS - XXL). Get yours while supplies last!!!

We are looking forward to an exciting line-up of entertainment this year.

Friday Night - May 10th, 2013 - Main Pavilion Stage

4:00-6:00 pm - Poke Salad Idol - Karaoke contest - Round 1-2 (finalists perform on Saturday with River City Entertainment)
6:00-8:00 pm - HomeMade Jam band - traditional country, variety

8:00-10:00 pm - Hystrung Band - Branson

Saturday May 11, 2013 - Main Pavilion Stage

To wrap up the festivities we plan to have a tailgate party at the Pavilion featuring:

3:15-5:15 pm - Bayou Boogie Band - Cajun, LA Swamp, Country

5:25-7:25 pm - Michael D'Armond Band

7:35-9:15 pm - Dixie Tradition

9:25-11:00 or so - Nickle Beer - headlining the show

We will feature Karaoke hosted by River City Entertainment. So all you Blanchard crooners, get ready to sing your hearts out at the festival with over 6000 songs to choose from.
